Our Message Board TOU
Note - Please know that you are responsible for reading and understanding the Terms of Use for these forums. If you need a simpler version, click here.
Avast ye scurvy scum! The creation of this forum 'tis for providin' a place for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean to discuss the movies, talk, write, have fun and drink some grog. Like any respectable pirate ship, this forum has a code of conduct. The rules and guidelines outlined below (The Code), were deemed to be fair (so say the captains, moderators and creators of this forum) and were made to keep the forum a respectable place that we can all share and enjoy.
Ye must keep to the code and follow all of the rules and guidelines. Barring extraordinary circumstances, the first violation where ye go adrift will result in a warning. A second violation will result in being forced to walk the plank (piratespeak for being banned from the forum) and, in extreme circumstances, your ISP administrator will be notified and yer internet access might wind up in Davey Jones's locker. Each level of sanction is subject to review on a case-by-case basis.
The Code:
1. Ye must always be polite 'n respectful to your fellow pirates! 'Tis also not allowed to start or participate in a flame thread. Pirates who post flames or deliberately spiteful comments about other forum members will be labeled a scallywag (pirate-speak for being warned) and, if the behaviors are repeated, will be forced to walk the plank (you'll be banned from the board). Ye may have an opinion about another pirate, but if it is a hurtful one, 'tis best to be keepin' it to yerself. With so many landlubbers aboard our message board, personality clashes are almost guaranteed. The best way to resolve these arguments 'tis to discuss it off the board (or separate 10 paces at dawn and whoever shoots first, wins). 99% of forum issues can be attributed to a lack of respect so ye best be nice to each other.
2. Polite disagreement between pirates, based on tolerance of the views and ideas of others, 'tis the way our discussions are to be conducted. Ye must show common courtesy to everyone on this ship, be they captains or bilge rats. Ye may feel free to express dissent but ye best back up yer views. Well thought-out responses such as, "that character stinks!!!!!" will be accomplishing very little, other than to lessen the validity of yer views in the eyes of yer fellow pirates.
3. Ye must show respect to yer fellow pirates' religion, race, sexual orientation, disabilities, amount of treasure, size of their ship, etc. Efforts to learn about others 'tis a welcomed and encouraged thing, but as soon as involved parties nay listen to the other side, the Captains (moderators) may intervene with cannons ready to fire.
4. If ye have an issue concernin' another pirate on this ship, ye should either speak to this person directly via email or an instant message program; if necessary ye may contact one of the moderators. Also, if ye have a secret what to tell some other pirate but don't have a way to pass yer note, don't put it up for all to see. It will be removed by the Captains when the decks are swabbed every evenin'. Anything what you post here should be for the whole brethren, not just one. Equal shares for all.
5. Any pirate on this ship who feels that a posted message 'tis objectionable is encouraged to contact a forum moderator immediately via email and/or private message.
6. No Spam! Ye must be thoughtful when ye post. Ye may only post topics that ye think other pirates be findin' interesting, funny or enjoyable. Ye may not post for the sake of posting or to gain a certain level.
7. Pirates or no pirates, absolutely no pornography, swearin', or cursin' can be contained within posts or signature pictures. What exactly constitutes violations of this rule 'tis a matter of common sense and civil behavior. References to bodily functions or sexual activities be having no place in the forum. Any images depicting material of this nature will be deleted and the scallywag poster may be having the ability to post images revoked. Further violations may be resultin' in the pirate being banned from the website.
8. Our code of rules does extend even to the Chatrooms, mateys. Should ye be seein' some mutinous scum writing innappropriate or vulgar things in the Chatroom, it be yer duty to inform those in charge of the ship by means of e-mail to KTTCAdminATGmail.com . Just copy the conversation, tell us what ye witnessed, and send away. Those offenders shall be dealt with be it by harsh word or the taste of cutlass. Also be forewarned that we consider our Chat Room to be an extension of our Message Board and we be reservin' the right to capture/copy chats in our Chat Room and re-publish those "ships logs" (piratespeak for transcripts) on our Message Board as we be seein' fit. Dead men don't use chatrooms.
9. Ye must be keepin' yer avatar and signature sizes down! Remember, there be pirates what have slower computers or connections than you, and it can feel like a fortnight to load a page with lots o' pictures. If ye be wishing to resize yer avatar and/or signature picture and donÂ’t know how, just ask and someone will be able to give ye some assistance! A few lines that means something to ye is nice, but be mindful that after the first two dozen times, that full-color photo of yer parrot Polly will start to get old (nothin' against Polly). Please keep yer avatar size limited to within 165 pixels X 165 pixels and yer sig size limited to within 500 pixels X 150 pixels. Be forwarned that avatars and sigs what be larger than our requested maximums will be deleted by the Captains and Commodores of this ship without warnin' an' without' gettin' yer permission.
If ye be wantin' to post pictures into th' bulk of yer message, please limit each picture size to 600 x 800 pixels. Pictures what be larger than our requested maximums will be changed from IMG files to URLs without warnin'.
10. Yer to be friendly and patient with each other, without pillaging or swordfights. After all, we are all on this ship to have fun!
11. When yer visitin' the forums for the first time, 'tis advised to read recent threads for a while before posting. Landlubbers call that "lurking" and 'tis simply to get a feel for the environment of our ship. Also, ye should check to see if there is a thread that already deals with yer topic and add yer post there, if relevant. **Note** If ye be havin' questions concernin' forum functions like how to post pictures or web links, ye may refer to our forum FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section located in the Help Forum, or our Landlubbers threads lwhat can be found in the Announcement section.
12. Ye should post in the appropriate Forum and if ye don't, yer post will be moved. Also, please do not post to draw attention to one of yer other posts in a different forum. If yer post is an interesting treasure, your fellow pirates will find it on their own accord, without your compass pointin' the way.
13. When discussin' the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, please be mindful that not everyone has seen all the films. If yer postin' about a major event in a movie, please inform your shipmates that ye may be postin' spoilers at the beginning of your post! Spoiler information from the Pirates films should be posted in their respective forums.
14. Yer not to post copyrighted material without includin' th' original source (which may or may not be th' site from which yer gettin' the online treasure). We be reservin' th' right to send such booty to Davey Jones' Locker (piratespeak for "delete it") without tellin' or apologizin' fer it, if the owner of the copyright treasure makes such a request. In addition yer not to encourage Role-Playing-Games based upon characters used in POTC. This material 'tis also copyrighted and can nay be posted unless ye have written permission to do so.
15. We be knowin' that many pirates will be postin' links on our message boards (photos, websites, My Space) but we nay think 'tis within our jurisdiction to be checkin' the content of those links. Clickin' on links be a pirate's choice. However, if ye be discoverin' a link on our message board that be goin' to a page ye find offensive and against our TOU, ye be encouraged to make a complaint to staff at KTTCAdminATgmail.com . If we be receivin' complaints about any links, we will address 'em and, following investigation, we be reservin' the right to delete links about which users have been complainin'. Links to malware or sigs that contain such links will be sent to Davy Jones' locker (deleted) immediately, without waitin' fer the Captains and Commodores to have discussion about it. Please note that ye also cannot use hotlinks fer postin' yer treasures unless the link goes to yer own website or to a site where ye have permission to be hotlinkin' from.
16. Although ye may discuss POTC merchandise (in the proper port, that is), ye may not use the KTTC message boards to advertise yer goods for sale, nor post links to such goods for sale or auction (unless such goods be rum, and then ye must share with the admin staff).
THE ONLY EXCEPTION BE: The trinket ye be sellin' is offered as a one-off, meaning the seller not be runnin' an ongoing business selling multiples of the item in question (unless the item be rum. If it is, see the guideline above about sharing).
Specifically, if someone has a bauble to sell or trade (provided said bauble is NOT a bootleg or counterfeit in violation of any local or international laws o' port), they may post an invitation for others to contact them PRIVATELY (preferably in a suitable place like The Salty Dog at midnight or beneath the last palm tree near the cove under a full moon) to discuss terms of trade or sale. YE MAY NOT ADVERTISE OR POST PRICES OF YER BAUBLE OR POST PICTURES OF SAME. This must be done privately, on yer own ship (or in the back rooms of The Salty Dog) OFF the board. Any posts in violation of this rule will be sunk without notice and the crew's rum drunken...er, drank...er, consumed immediately by the Admin Staff.
Also be advised that KTTC will not get involved in any way with such private transactions. They be just that: private and as such are done at the risk of the participants. If ye get duped or cheated in a sale or trade, KTTC will not get involved in any way, so only deal with them you trust! Posts regarding discrepancies of any such private dealings will be removed from the board without notice.
This change don't be affectin' the policy of seeking information about items ye be thinking of buying and are seeking more info on. If ye have questions and/or want advice about goods for sale or auction (i.e. "I see this auction for Johnny and Orlando playing cards. Are they real or bootleg?", "Is that a good price for this item?", etc.), ye may post links to same."
This alteration in policy does not contradict our current policy of not allowing any commercial sales on the board without first contacting the KTTC admin for permission. Any posts that violate this rule will be pulled down immediately and repeat offenders will be kicked overboard (and their rum will be...well, ye already knows whats will done with their rum).
17. There will be no tolerance for trolls or sock puppets on our ship. The Captains consider them to be as low as bilge rats 'n we will be enforcin' warnings and/or bannings as needed for such lilly-livered pond scum.
18. You may edit your posts for any reason, until someone answers that post. . If you want to include additional information (such as a web address you couldn't find earlier) the new info needs to be obviously placed, such as in this example:
*EDIT* - Here's the web address wanted and couldn't find earlier.
Editing means adding information. Removal of information or posts is forbidden. All edits need to be noted at the bottom of the post.
If you feel you need any other type of edit once your post has been answered, please contact the Admins at KTTCAdminATgmail.com, with an explanation of specifically what you would like to be edited and why, and we will consider such requests on a case-by-case basis. Anyone caught removing or altering posts at some later date may be penalized, including temporary or permanent ban, at the discretion of the KTTC Admin Team, based on the nature of the action.
Remember that the best time to edit or delete your post is BEFORE it's even posted. Use the Preview button to read what you've written before you post it. Check the spelling, make sure your comments are easy to understand and most importantly, that you really want to others read what you've written. If you're not sure then don't post. It's harder to fix problems than it is to avoid them!
19. If ye be havin' any disagreements with, and/or complaints/criticism of KTTC policies, ye should email 'em to KTTCAdminATgmail.com . Negative issues what be brought to our attention in email will remain in the privacy of email, savvy? Alternately, negativisms about KTTC what be left on our public boards, fer all pirates to see, will have public responses.
On top of that, the orders of the admin staff (mods, lieutenants, captains and commodores) are the final word on ALL posted content. No scurvy dog may edit, correct or change any posts, edits, or course headings made by an admin staff member. If one of ye posts is edited by a staff member, correcting or changing such an edit is grounds for immediate keelhauling with NO room for parlay. If you disagree with one o' the staff member's changes, send a message in a bottle to kttcadminATgmail.com and we will review the situation from there. |
